Co-Op

PATHS students who qualify may have the opportunity to participate in a Co-Op Workplace placement. Co-Op allows students to gain hands-on experience and learn how the business and industry function. This can be in the form of pre-apprenticeship placement, internships, clinical rotations, or job shadowing. Co-Op aims to increase a student’s industry knowledge, receive on-the-job training, and better prepare them for the future in their industry.
Co-Op placement is designed to support students' current learning goals at PATHS.Participation is included as part of a student’s grade in their PATHS program. Students may have the ability to attend their placement during their scheduled PATHS hours based on employer needs and scheduling. Students must provide their own transportation.

PATHS instructors will determine each student’s readiness to take on this professional responsibility. Only second-year students in good standing may be considered for a placement. A student in good standing is one who demonstrates a high level of commitment to their learning through good attendance and reliable performance in their respective programs. Students, their PATHS instructor, and the Co-Op coordinator will work together to find a placement that meets the educational standards of the program and aligns with students' future goals.

Under the guidance of the PATHS Co-Op coordinator, students receive ongoing support, skill development, and additional training. Students will be expected to complete regular reflections and other required curriculum assignments through the Co-Op Google Classroom.
Students' performance in their placement is evaluated regularly in the following categories:

  • Work Attitudes
  • Team Skills
  • Dependability
  • Appearance/Dress
  • Interpersonal Communication Effectiveness
  • Initiative
  • Job Knowledge
  • Safety
  • Quality of Work
  • Quantity of Work
