If you are unable to find a job, seriously consider volunteering your time with a community organization of your interest. A volunteer job has the potential to help you land that first job by giving you a work reference. If you are on time, work your schedule and work hard as a volunteer, you are paving the way to a positive work reference to use on future paying job applications. Not only are you helping a community organization by volunteering, you are also helping yourself toward future paid employment.

If you currently have a job, do your best to keep it! Finding a job is hard work!! If you need to leave the position, give a “2 week notice” to your supervisor to let them know you are leaving the position and then WORK the hours you are scheduled for the 2 weeks.  This will give you a good chance to use this employer as a reference for your next job and on your resume.

Good luck with your job hunting,    Annemarie Salzberg/
