PATHS Attendance Policy

Attendance is a crucial factor in Career and Technical Education. To maximize training opportunities, students are expected to be present every day. Missing school at PATHS will result in poor academic and technical performance and create a void in a student’s skill achievement. PATHS programs are two-plus hours of instructional time, and missing one day is equivalent to losing two classes at a student's sending school. Many of PATHS policies and procedures reflect those found in the workplace rather than those typically found in a sending school.

Students with poor attendance will not be offered the opportunity for a workplace learning experience or receive employment recommendations from their instructors. Poor attendance will also impact a student's ability to sit for program third party certification exams.

Ultimately, students that do not meet PATHS attendance expectations may be separated from the school and not be recommended to return for a second year.

Student Absence Protocol

If your student is absent please email pathsattendance@portlandschools.org. We do not accept phone calls. If your student’s sending school is not sending students due to school-wide events or other circumstances, the student will be marked as “not sending”.

Student Tardy Protocol

If your student will be tardy please email pathsattendance@portlandschools.org. We do not accept phone calls.

Student Dismissal Protocol

No student is permitted to leave school during the school day without permission of a parent/guardian. To dismiss a student before the end of the session please email pathsattendance@portlandschools.org. We do not accept phone calls. If a student becomes ill during the school day, they must report to the school’s nurse.  Students who are ill may not leave the building until contact is made with a parent/guardian for permission. Students leaving school without permission will be subjected to discipline.

Closings & Delays

PATHS follows the Portland Public Schools closings and delays. If your student’s sending school is closed and Portland remains open, your student will be marked as “not sending”.
